NFC East Dallas Cowboys

Finished 2004 season 6-10, 3rd place in the NFC East behind the Giants and Eagles

Key returning starters:
Julius Jones – RB
Keyshawn Johnson – WR
Jason Witten – TE
Roy Williams – S
Dat Nguyen - LB

The Cowboys are coming off a dismal 6-10 season when high expectations were placed on this team. With the free agent signing of Drew Bledsoe and the switch to the 3-4 defense, can this team find the chemistry it needs to be a contender in the NFC East?

2004 Stats:
Ranked 14th overall in offense, #7 ranked in NFC
Ranked 16th overall in defense, #7 ranked in NFC

Your thoughts on the Dallas Cowboys this upcoming 2005 season...strengths/weaknesses and your prediction on where they will finish in the division.

I think the Cowboys will make some noise in the NFC this year, even possibly have a berth as a wildcard in the playoffs. Part of the problem was their QB situation, high hopes were placed on Henson and he just hasn't come through yet or Parcell just hasn't believed in him enough, either way, the Cowboys needed to improve their QB situation. I think with the signing of Bledsoe, it reunites the QB and head coach and I think they have a clear understanding of each other which will make them both successful. Not to mention their running game with Julius Jones, who is the real deal - gives that balanced offensive attack that Bledsoe needs to be successful.

Defensively, I was rather disappointed in their performance last season. Remember in 2003, they had one of the best defenses in the NFL, then to drop as they did with the same personell. Hopefully this season with an improved offense, the defense will step up.

Jason Witten is going to have a huge season with Bledsoe at the helm.

AS far as the Cowboys success in the division, I think the NFC East is going to be extremely tough. Though I don't think anyone is going to finish above the possible T.O.-less Eagles. I have high expectations for the Redskins and if Eli Manning can play as well as he finished off last season as, we could be looking at one of the best divisions in the NFL.

But prediction wise, I see the Cowboys finishing 3rd place, behind the Eagles and Redskins, probably at 8-8 or 9-7 with an outside shot of reaching the playoffs.

Well, well, well... How bout them Cowgirls! It's going to be really fun to watch how this story unfolds with Bill Parcells nearing the end of his coaching career. I think this is the year that will decide his future, if they come out and go under.500 Bill will call it quits guaranteed. The guy doesn't have much more to prove except that he can bring the Cowboys back into a contender team. I think with the addition of Drew Concrete Feet Bledsoe the Cowboys will be much better even though his career has been on a downward slope the past 2-3 years since he was pushed to the side for Tom Brady. If Bledsoe can have a 20-25 TD season with fewer then 15 interceptions look for the Cowboys to make the playoffs as a wildcard team at the very least and give the Eagles a run for there money for the division title.

Julius Jones is the real deal and should be able to make up for the concrete feet of Drew Bledsoe and rush for a good 1200 yards and a dozen TD's. My only question about the Cowboys is at the wide receiver position. keyshawn Johnson isn't the impact player he once was and I can't even think who the other receiver is on the other side. Still despite that a running game and a smash mouth defense coached by a smash mouth coach should be enough to get the girls into the playoffs. Cowboys hmm I'm leaning 9-7 but I'll go with 10-6.

Terry Glenn is their other standout receiver, though he was injured for 75% of the season last year. With a healthy Glenn and Johnson, Quincy Morgan whom they received from the Browns in a mid-season trade last year can be productive...but they have to remain healthy. I'm sure Bledsoe will be able to get them the ball.

Sure Bledsoe may have cement feet, but he was productive last year, just shy of 3000 yards, had 20 TD and 16 INT. If it wasn't for that slow start of the Bills, those stats would be even better

Lets talk fantasy players from the Cowboys...obviously their #1 player in any fantasy league should be Julius Jones, who should go in the top 3 rounds...if you pick him up later, you got yourself a steal! Bledsoe might be worth considering as a backup QB...along with their trio WR set.

Witten, the TE should be a starter is most fantasy leagues.

Their defense was a top 5 defense picked up last year, but those fantasy owners who did draft the defense got burned. Don't expect the Cowboys defense to go as high as before, but they should be considered a good defense, especially considering they are playing teams from the NFC West.

Fantasy-wise, Witten is going to be huge this season--Bledsoe's with a new team and the TE alwasy gets more looks with a fresh QB. Witten has Toney Gonzales' hands.
If you're into gambling, Keysahwn is worth a 3rd-4th round pick. He'll probably last until the 6th-7th in most leagues. If he was going to have a rennaisance year, this is most definitely going to be it. Julius jones is worth a 3rd round pick at best... He's good, but not top two good. I do think the boys are better on paper than the skins, and I see them sweeping the rivalry this year. Oh yeah, and Lance Armstrong's still just a bike rider.

Steve already dug up a column that explained what Lance is Bike man, you putz. That's like saying the guy who can bench press the most is the "greatest athlete." Bull shit. He's got some endurance and is in great shape. Boring. Bike racing: boring pasttime. NOT a sport. And Sports guy? We're not talking about the Chiefs. We're talking about the Cowboys here. Why don't you stow the red banner for a while--Oh hell, as long as we're on the subject, the Chiefs are going to be the weakest team in the AFC West this season. Priest's salad days are behind him. As for salad tossing... well, that's what they do in KC, right?

The Cowboys will have a good regular season run, but the bottom line is that Droop Bledsoe will do them in in critical games. Drew will throw for 400 yards one week and throw 3 picks and a fumble the next. Drew is 5-34 in his career against teams with ten or more wins. Drew took 87 sacks the past two seasons and that is not just the lines fault but his lack of pocket presence. He will frustrate the Cowboys fans with flashes of brilliance followed by untimely gaffs.
