This situation is extremely difficult to pick a side on, but I firmly agree that you signed a contract, you must fulfill your obligations. Therefore, having the Army take back their promise so you can fight in the war is the right call. I think the situation would be worse if the Army had to tell the spouses, children and parents of those killed in the war that because Caleb is an athlete, he doesn't have to fight in the war. You signed up to serve, you should complete your obligation first. I have no respect for deserters either - if you sign up, you better damn well know that you could be sent off to war to die. Regardless of whether or not you believe in the reason for the war, if you aren't going to back up every war, then don't sign up!

Lets just hope that whomever is elected pulls us out of this so called war. I agree with you though Steve. You made the commitment now serve it.
