Take a Hike!

Jeff Bzdelik was fired today. Does this show that KiKi Vanderweigh has a sense of urgency for the Nuggets to get on top? Or is this just another sad example of a good coach taking the blame for injured and un self motivated players?

I think it's a combination of both really. Denver has been haunted by injuries this season, but at the same time, even when the players were healthy, the team wasn't gelling together like they should have been. This year's team just doesn't seem to be playing with the sense of urgency and emotion they showed last season. I strongly feel part of that is new teammates – Especially for Carmelo since he was looked at as the leader of this team. Still kind of is, but a lot of teams are now trying to have Martin fill those shoes, while Miller is also considered a team leader. Generally, even on the good squads, there is always 1 standout team leader. Even the great Lakers team, Shaq was always that man and Kobe just wanted that role. The Bulls team from the 80’s/90’s, MJ was the man. I think this boils down to coaching as well as the unfortunate part of the game…injuries. Perhaps a new coach will light a fire under the team, but something had to change, especially with how much $$$ is on their roster this year.

Yea but what about last years champs the Pistons. Those guys are a true example of teamwork. No real super stars and for good grief Chauncy was the MVP. I'm glad that Michael Cooper has taken over the Nuggets coaching duties and I hope they stick with him. It will be interesting to see who steps in and coaches the Nuggets.

Interesting yes about the Pistons - let me rephrase my comment, I wasn't referring to a "super-star" persay, I was referring to a team leader. Doesn't matter if that player is an All-Star or not. Billups stepped up during the playoffs, but I clearly see Wallace as the team leader (though not the most effective player of that team). Plus, great coaching - all a formula for success. Denver is just lacking pieces of that formula.

And as for the next Denver coach, I think Kiki should spend some $$$ and bring in Jackson
