Is he for real?

Big Ben was the real deal in the regular season. It doesn't matter unless he is the real deal in the playoffs.

As I'm sure you've heard this many times, but Big Ben came into the pefect situation in Pittsburgh. Pitt has great offensive talent surrounding him, including an awesome offensive line, great defense, one of the best, if not the best in the NFL this season. Basically, Big Ben had to do what Dilfer did in Baltimore when they won the SB - don't make mistakes, which needless to say he hasn't done. He hasn't thrown the rock more then 25 times/game; they run the ball 60% of the time (why not with Bettis and Staley sharing carries).

So to answer your question - yes, he is the real deal. I don't care how great the people are surrounding you, that is unreal for a ROOKIE QB to come into the league and not lose a game. Rookies just make stupid mistakes, it happens, but Ben doesn't, so he is the real deal. Will they go to the SB and win it? No, I think there is a good chance of them losing this week against the JETS. But surely that team won't beat the Patriots or Colts in the AFC Championship game.

Yes Yes, I know the Steelers all ready beat the Pats earlier this year, but that was without Dillion, and WAY too much pressure on a team to have won that many consecutive games. Now that they have two losses under their belt, they are more calm, more focused, healthy Dillion – I don’t see a repeat.

But your right, it all doesn’t matter if you can’t win in the playoffs. This doesn’t take away from what Big Ben has accomplished this season. Win or lose, that team is going to be tough next season.

Big Ben Rolithlessbooger has had a phenomenal season, there's no question about it. Is he the next coming of Peyton Manning, not yet. Unfortunatly we don't get to see him play every week so we can't really see how special he is. He is a product of a system that is committed to the running game, and has a very scary defense. Those ingredients make for strong opponents in the playoffs.

I will disagree with you Steve, the Jets will NOT go in to Pittsburgh and win. The Jets are beat up, Pennington can hardly throw down the field dispite his meager efforts last week. The Jets best defensive player John Abraham is sitting out the playoffs like a chump. And they were one missed 40 yard field goal away from sitting home this week.

As far as the Pats/Colts game. That is a toss up. But I am going to give the edge to the Pats. They really have the Colts number. They've already beaten them in week 1 and Manning always struggles against the Pats.

Well, I didn't call for the upset, I just know the Jets play solid defense, especially against the run. In their last matchup, it wasn't as if the Steelers dominated that game. Few key turnovers by Pennington who happened to just come back from his injury, and a crap load of penalties is why the Jets lost that game. 17-6, which the Jets didn't give up a 100 yard rusher and less then 300 yards total offense for the Steelers. Really if it weren't for that trick play which Bettis threw for a TD, that score would be 10-6. The Jets also play great offense between the 20's, their struggles are in teh red zone. So all I am saying is I can see an upset happening, but I am certainly not predicting it. I think the Steelers will probably win this game by no more then a TD.

Fortunatly for Roothilsboger he is'nt put in situations where he has to win games with his arm. I would love to see the Steelers fall behind early in the championship game to see how he responds. The one thing that is clear in the back of my mind is when Tommy Maddox came out of nowhere 2-3 years ago and was putting up huge numbers and then he fell flat on his face the next year.

If Rthlisobogeer responds to a situation where he is forced to win a game through the air by throwing it 30+ times, then we will see how good of an actual QB he is.

I will say this though, he is showing a lot of class this year and that says a lot. He has not done anything to embarace himself, and his act of donating his playoff pay check to the Tsunami victims speaks volumns about his charector.

Couldn't agree more, his character doesn't sound of that from a rookie...he is very humbling. And I would love for him to win a game from his arm, or atleast put him in a situation that he is needed to. The only situation this year where that was a possibility was against Jacksonville, which he responded well. At the same time though, it’s not like Jacksonville has the greatest offense so 1 series where a drive was needed was impressive (especially against a good defense) but not impressive enough. To see that against the Colts or Pats would be excellent.

You have to like his size though. Rogerlithsoo is 6'5" 240 lbs. To bad he wasn't black, then he would have Culpepper like running ability.

Rothlesburger Shmothlesburger! You guys are all up on this dudes nuts and he hasn't done anything in the playoffs yet. Therefore he is unproven! Tommy Maddox would be looking like a pro bowler right now if he didn't get hurt. yea Big Ben don't make mistakes but I tell you one thing he aint gonna be so great when he doesnt have a defense. Unless he is blessed to have a great defense for his career he is not gonna have the great winning position that he has now. He is never going to be the caliber player that Manning is.

Well, Well boys look like we're talking about something I happen to know first hand. I am actually buds with Bill Cowher and I spoke to him about this very subject. He told me that he could probably stick the BUS at Q.B. and he would have a undefeated record. he said the line has been working so hard in the off season and that these guys can keep lions off a hambone. Don't be fooled by the undefeated record that young Ben has. He will lose in the playoffs, I hate to say it and Bill will probably kill me for it but hey I'm no fool.

Figures some jackass who calls himself Red would make ridiculous comments without providing facts for his so-called theories. For starters, we never said he was going to be a Manning. And speaking of Manning, he hasn’t done shit in the playoffs either, so that must mean he is “UNPROVEN.” Ben hasn’t had the chance yet, but going 13-0 as a ROOKIE in the NFL is just sick. And Ben might not be all that great without that defense, but right now there is no way to determine that. Nobody has had the chance to see him win an NFL game by his arm. But going off of Red’s idea…Big Ben won’t be shit if he didn’t have two arms and two legs. Or wait, Ben wouldn’t be shit if he were in a wheelchair. Common dude, don’t make stupid theories unless it’s something that can be analyzed. Pittsburgh will have a solid defense for years to come.

But Ben will probably lose in the AFC Championship game, I think you need an explosive offense to beat either the Pats or Colts - but then again, this same Pitt team beat the Pats earlier this season.

Blogger Jamezwp said...

your right! he hasn't done anything in the playoffs....Maybe because he hasn't played in the playoffs yet!!!!
And that's because when you have a steller regular season, you get a first round bye and therfore don't have to prove anything until the second week in the playoffs.

I don't think we were on his nuts, we admitted he didn't have to pass the ball that much. And what's with all this hypothetical BS. They DO have a great defense, they DO have a solid running game, and therfore Rolthboogeris is just a part of the puzzles that make the Pittsburgh a 15-1 team.

So Mike, by that rational...the Bus must be a better QB than Maddox..right?

12:43 PM
Blogger Steve said...

Mike doesn't think rationally, he's just a fair weather fan who has been a Broncos season ticket holder for 10 years.

12:44 PM

Ouch!! He's not going to like that one... Come back Mike, were just having a little fun.

Blogger Arvada Mike said...

We will see just how good Ben does this weekend. He has been great by not making mistakes but whose to say he is not just another Trent Dilfer. Rothlesburger will get his chance to prove the world what he is all about. If the Steelers lose to the Jets or shoot even if they lose in the AFC championship all we will remember is who won the superbowl and not Big Ben. Rothlesburger still has to prove himself in the playoffs. I hope that he does tear it up. Shoot I hope that the Jets are winning and Rothlesburger has to make a come back. Unfortunatly I just don't see that happening.

True Story-

Our old Janitor in high schools dad is the equipment manager for the Broncos, and he said that Ben Roolisboogerth looks like me.

Blogger RED said...

Okay you are right he has earned the right to not have to prove himself yet. Do you guys really think they will get to the superbowl though? I think that Maddox would have done just as well if he was the starter maybe even better. Rothlesburger hasn't shown that he has a big gun and I doubt he even has the arm of Maddox.

Watch though, as the Steeler defense deteriates so will Ben Rothlesburger unless he proves otherwise. Right now he is the biggest story in the NFL and all the pressure has been on him. He has dealt with it well but playoff pressure is a different story.

1:00 PM
Blogger Jamezwp said...

Yup you are right. Playoff pressure is different. That's why in 2003 Peyton Manning went 23 for 47 -237 yards 1td and 4int's in the AFC championship.
And in 2002 vs. the Jets, Peyton Manning went 14 for 31 -137 yards 0td and 2ints.
So does that make him an unproven QB? It's too bad that Manning can't play the Denver Broncos in every round of the playoffs.

1:07 PM
Blogger RED said...

yea no doubt. As for Manning being unproven...Well this time of the year...Yes. He is still unproven. The guy can't get it done come playoff time. As for my statement about Rothlesburger being unproven, I guess I should say he has been yet to prove himself. i just don't think he will get it done. If you look back at our picks we posted I picked the Colts to take it all. I believe Manning will get over the Ty Law hump (since he's out) and prove himself to be the best in the league.

1:16 PM
Blogger Jamezwp said...

He may just get over the "Ty Law Hump" But then he will have to get over the Pittsburgh Hump. And the pittsburgh hump will probably be a little bigger and a little tougher considering the Steelers allowed the 3rd fewest passing yards per game and the least amount of points per game.
And then the Colts defense will have to stop the #1 rushing team in the league, and a Rookie QB named Ruthless-booger who is going to achieve something in his first year that Manning hasn't done in his career.
I'm going out on a limb and picking the Steelers to win it all.

1:24 PM
Blogger Steve said...

All this said, when the Steelers lose in the AFC Championship game to the Colts, I don't think it will fall on Ben's shoulders. The Colts will pick that defense apart. Lets face it, with a rookie QB, you can only expect so much. But scoring atleast 30 to beat the Colts isn't one of them. The defense has to show up that day and shut Manning down. That will be the x-factor.

I would enjoy seeing a Colts blow out to see how Ben responds though. We haven't seen him throw the ball more then 25x in any game, so it'll be interesting to what kind of production he has from 40+ passes (especially to receivers like Burress, Ward and Randle El).

But common, as a ROOKIE...keep that in mind, especially when you think about other rookies in the league, including the GREATS, he has completed 66.4% of his passes, over a 98% QB Rating and most importantly, 13-0 in the NFL. If this were college no big deal, but I think we all can agree that the NFL is no easy task to win that many consecutive game. Sure he hasn’t proven himself in the playoffs, but are you going to call Dilfer a “proven” player too because he won the SB? They sure didn’t win it by his athletic ability.

I think for future remarks, throwing out the words of proven and unproven seems wise. No way to really determine any of this, because on any given Sunday, something can happen.

Look Jamezwp! I don't appreciate your tone. I came onto this blogger to speak sports and I thought it was for only the most knowledgable sports fans. I don't think you are funny talking about me the way you have.
I make more money then you! I am bigger then you! I am smarter then you! So go test your sports knowledge elsewhere you little prick.

There used to be guys like you in College who thought they were tough but when it came time to strap on the helmit you could tell who was a faker. So go get some balls and come back when your old enough. And how old are you? 15... You seem like a kid to me?

Mike Mike Mike....let me tell you something, when you brag about how smart you are learn to spell the word helmet, it's not helmit. Learn the difference between the word then and than. It's I make more money THAN you.

I'll give it to you, you are bigger THAN me. I looked at your picture. You are definatly fatter THAN me, but I wouldn't be bragging about that.

As far as money is concerned, I made $75k last year and I was only 24 years old. That was because I was working for somebody else. Now in 2005 I am becoming an entreprenuer and am currently buying a company that has gross sales of over a 1.2 million a year. If you make more than that, cogratulations. However, give me 2-3 years to pay this off and then let's compare savings accounts.

As far as sports, all information you have put on this site has been circumstantial, not factual. Bring your knowledge, and by the way, who cares about your buddy Cowher, or your season tickets, bring something that has some validity.

I am not fat either! I am a little over weight but I am a giant campared to your scronny ass. i am 6'5 280 lbs of pure genius. You talk trash and I will have to smash you like a grape.
