Is he for real?

Big Ben was the real deal in the regular season. It doesn't matter unless he is the real deal in the playoffs.

As I'm sure you've heard this many times, but Big Ben came into the pefect situation in Pittsburgh. Pitt has great offensive talent surrounding him, including an awesome offensive line, great defense, one of the best, if not the best in the NFL this season. Basically, Big Ben had to do what Dilfer did in Baltimore when they won the SB - don't make mistakes, which needless to say he hasn't done. He hasn't thrown the rock more then 25 times/game; they run the ball 60% of the time (why not with Bettis and Staley sharing carries).

So to answer your question - yes, he is the real deal. I don't care how great the people are surrounding you, that is unreal for a ROOKIE QB to come into the league and not lose a game. Rookies just make stupid mistakes, it happens, but Ben doesn't, so he is the real deal. Will they go to the SB and win it? No, I think there is a good chance of them losing this week against the JETS. But surely that team won't beat the Patriots or Colts in the AFC Championship game.

Yes Yes, I know the Steelers all ready beat the Pats earlier this year, but that was without Dillion, and WAY too much pressure on a team to have won that many consecutive games. Now that they have two losses under their belt, they are more calm, more focused, healthy Dillion – I don’t see a repeat.

But your right, it all doesn’t matter if you can’t win in the playoffs. This doesn’t take away from what Big Ben has accomplished this season. Win or lose, that team is going to be tough next season.

Well, I didn't call for the upset, I just know the Jets play solid defense, especially against the run. In their last matchup, it wasn't as if the Steelers dominated that game. Few key turnovers by Pennington who happened to just come back from his injury, and a crap load of penalties is why the Jets lost that game. 17-6, which the Jets didn't give up a 100 yard rusher and less then 300 yards total offense for the Steelers. Really if it weren't for that trick play which Bettis threw for a TD, that score would be 10-6. The Jets also play great offense between the 20's, their struggles are in teh red zone. So all I am saying is I can see an upset happening, but I am certainly not predicting it. I think the Steelers will probably win this game by no more then a TD.

Couldn't agree more, his character doesn't sound of that from a rookie...he is very humbling. And I would love for him to win a game from his arm, or atleast put him in a situation that he is needed to. The only situation this year where that was a possibility was against Jacksonville, which he responded well. At the same time though, it’s not like Jacksonville has the greatest offense so 1 series where a drive was needed was impressive (especially against a good defense) but not impressive enough. To see that against the Colts or Pats would be excellent.

Rothlesburger Shmothlesburger! You guys are all up on this dudes nuts and he hasn't done anything in the playoffs yet. Therefore he is unproven! Tommy Maddox would be looking like a pro bowler right now if he didn't get hurt. yea Big Ben don't make mistakes but I tell you one thing he aint gonna be so great when he doesnt have a defense. Unless he is blessed to have a great defense for his career he is not gonna have the great winning position that he has now. He is never going to be the caliber player that Manning is.

Figures some jackass who calls himself Red would make ridiculous comments without providing facts for his so-called theories. For starters, we never said he was going to be a Manning. And speaking of Manning, he hasn’t done shit in the playoffs either, so that must mean he is “UNPROVEN.” Ben hasn’t had the chance yet, but going 13-0 as a ROOKIE in the NFL is just sick. And Ben might not be all that great without that defense, but right now there is no way to determine that. Nobody has had the chance to see him win an NFL game by his arm. But going off of Red’s idea…Big Ben won’t be shit if he didn’t have two arms and two legs. Or wait, Ben wouldn’t be shit if he were in a wheelchair. Common dude, don’t make stupid theories unless it’s something that can be analyzed. Pittsburgh will have a solid defense for years to come.

But Ben will probably lose in the AFC Championship game, I think you need an explosive offense to beat either the Pats or Colts - but then again, this same Pitt team beat the Pats earlier this season.

Mike doesn't think rationally, he's just a fair weather fan who has been a Broncos season ticket holder for 10 years.

Okay you are right he has earned the right to not have to prove himself yet. Do you guys really think they will get to the superbowl though? I think that Maddox would have done just as well if he was the starter maybe even better. Rothlesburger hasn't shown that he has a big gun and I doubt he even has the arm of Maddox.

Watch though, as the Steeler defense deteriates so will Ben Rothlesburger unless he proves otherwise. Right now he is the biggest story in the NFL and all the pressure has been on him. He has dealt with it well but playoff pressure is a different story.

yea no doubt. As for Manning being unproven...Well this time of the year...Yes. He is still unproven. The guy can't get it done come playoff time. As for my statement about Rothlesburger being unproven, I guess I should say he has been yet to prove himself. i just don't think he will get it done. If you look back at our picks we posted I picked the Colts to take it all. I believe Manning will get over the Ty Law hump (since he's out) and prove himself to be the best in the league.

All this said, when the Steelers lose in the AFC Championship game to the Colts, I don't think it will fall on Ben's shoulders. The Colts will pick that defense apart. Lets face it, with a rookie QB, you can only expect so much. But scoring atleast 30 to beat the Colts isn't one of them. The defense has to show up that day and shut Manning down. That will be the x-factor.

I would enjoy seeing a Colts blow out to see how Ben responds though. We haven't seen him throw the ball more then 25x in any game, so it'll be interesting to what kind of production he has from 40+ passes (especially to receivers like Burress, Ward and Randle El).

But common, as a ROOKIE...keep that in mind, especially when you think about other rookies in the league, including the GREATS, he has completed 66.4% of his passes, over a 98% QB Rating and most importantly, 13-0 in the NFL. If this were college no big deal, but I think we all can agree that the NFL is no easy task to win that many consecutive game. Sure he hasn’t proven himself in the playoffs, but are you going to call Dilfer a “proven” player too because he won the SB? They sure didn’t win it by his athletic ability.

I think for future remarks, throwing out the words of proven and unproven seems wise. No way to really determine any of this, because on any given Sunday, something can happen.
