Crybabies or Legit Complaint?

I'm sure the players have their complaints about wanting a salary cap, but look at what it's done to the sport. Will Detroit and Colorado ever be left out of the playoffs? Sure the players don't want to take a salary decrease, but if they don't, they just won't play. Then what? Us NHL fans are left holding our thumb up our @#@ thinking the players are crybabies.

Your thoughts on this NHL Lockout as well as salary caps in general.

I hate hockey. I'd rather watch 2 baseball season of the Rockies then waste my time watching toothless queers skate on ice and pretend to get in fights that are about as worthy as a Don King promoted fight. I hope there is never gonna be hockey again. I am satisfyed watching NFL network and replays of Different strokes. Hopefully they never sort this mess out and I dont have to waste time flipping over channels that play this wacky canadien game.

You guys are extremely narrow minded. Hockey is (or was) one of the fastest, hardest hitting and most skillful sports on the planet. Hockey is hard to watch on TV because it is so fast, and that’s why its never met wide spread general public support.

To call hockey players “toothless queers” further proves that you have zero knowledge of the sport .. even IF you could skate you would head for the benches as even the weakest hockey player ripped a puck at 60 MPH in your general direction. I’d line any hockey player up against any “thug” the NBA had to offer and gladly watch him get the bling bling beat out of him.

Anyways back from my visit in Dealingwithidiots-ville I think the previous lockout set the tone and this one was more like .. “oh, not again”

The players should accept a salary cap and the owners should raise what they think to be a “generous offer.” They should also remove a lot of the small market teams to make the league in general more competitive.

Begin flame war .. now.

Wow, obviously no hockey fans here. Guess from this point going forward, I will no longer make post about hockey. But since I actually do enjoy hockey, I'll simply say us fans are the ones losing out. It's too bad we can't watch exciting hockey being played because players want to cry about making 10 million vs 8 million. Not saying that isn't a huge reduction in salary, BUT from my standpoint, I'll play for 1 million.

I agree Web, both parties need to accept things they don't want to accept, but right now it's a pissing contest!

Yeah, Hockey the sport in general is losing out along with the fans .. the above is a testament to that.

I remember back in the late 90's, Hockey truly began to emerge as the 4th most popular sport amongst American sports fans (at its peak almost equaling the NBA in television ratings and attendance)

Shortly the original lockout .. the NHL realized heavy attendance drops and decreased viewership ..

Soon you will see hockey eclipsed by ping pong and curling (oohhh the drama .. is it ice .. is it wax -- who knows!?!?)

R.I.P. NHL 05'

The players are at fault. They want million dollar salaries while their fans are seeing their jobs going overseas.

Plus, they are the ones clutching, grabbing, stickhandling, and generally making pro hockey unwatchable.

Any human being should be ecstatic to get paid even $100K/year to PLAY a sport (emphasis on "play").

WEB- Are you from Canada or something man? Hockey went out with gang banging in the late 90's. It might be more interesting if the puck was white then there might be some actual scoring. I can't believe these greedy hockey players I mean come on not that many people even watch the sport for heavens sake its below WNBA in the US. If they think they should make more money maybe they should consider going back over seas where they came from and play for rubles or something. NHL needs to take a hard look at how the NFL runs itself and take some notes and use it. Oh and Hockey in Florida? Yea get rid of those teams too.

Eh whatever people - if you don't like the sport, don't comment on it.

For us real hockey fans, looks like the Players Association agreed on a salary cap, a much higher salary cap then the owners wanted, but nonetheless a salary cap. Hopefully this can save the season a little, to get us through the boring times ahead until NFL camps start.

By the way I turned 27 this past week.

Well, RED- to answer your question, "Why don't they just go back from wherever they came from and play for rubles..." They come here for several reasons- the fame, the fortune, and the freedom. Many of the 190 independent nations have professional hockey, but wouldn't you rather play hockey in the US or would you stay in Siberia where it's 90 below and do nothing but eat fish and stale bread?

I'm also shocked that you guys are calling hockey players greedy by any means. Geezit, really? Hockey players are nowhere near as greedy as basketball players OR baseball players- which by the way are two American sports that are not becoming increasing dominant by your "overseas" players.

Think about what you're saying sometimes...I understand you don't like the sport of hockey, but it's doesn't give you the right to denounce it, and you certainly can't compare it to to the other sports....

Happy 27th ATL GIRL! We havn't seen you in a while and we were beggining to worry. (Nice to see ya back) As for Hockey Ken thye messed up because the xpanded too fast. Like I said Hockey in Florida WTF? As for the players being greedy - Hell yea they are cmon the some here to the USA to land fame and money and all that great stuff but when it comes to the $ part they will sit out rather then play. For the amount of money NHL brings in I'd have to agree they are greedy. This hurt the game more then anything this hold out. All that they had left is gone now and it's gonna be tough for them to get back on track. As for baseball and the NBA well the popularity of those sports are dominate compared to hockey and NHl couldnt afford for this stunt to happen. So long hockey!

What's the big deal- hockey in Florida? It's in an arena...why would it matter?

Here's one for you- why baseball in Toronto or Montreal? It's not a Canadian sport and it gets pretty damn cold out there during the beginning of Spring and Fall.

3:46 PM
Blogger RED said...

You don't think they expanded way too fast? Come on what about Columbus? That isn't even a market good enough for the WNBA! Baseball has been in Montreal and Toronto since the 70's man, just in the past 10 years the NHL has tried 10 expansion teams. That is just plain stupid to try to expand a sport that isn't making any money. Yea the Avalanche are popular here in Denver only because we have the best sport fans in the country. I don't see a hockey team in Kansas City... You'll be lucky if hockey has a season this year.

Blogger Steve said...

Well, baseball is no longer in Montreal, but I certainly agree with you Cosmic. You can make the same argument for the NBA, why have it in Toronto during the middle of winter?

And I can sum all this up with 1 word - IGNORANCE, it's all about the ignorance of the sport.

What I do find funny though is that Jamezwp and Red used to play roller hockey often!

Steve - Playing the sport and watching the sport are totally two different things. I also play racquetball but unfortunately they don't put it on TV Shucks!!! Have you ever played in line hockey?

4:07 PM
Blogger Steve said...

Why yes Jesse, WE have played in-line hockey. I don't play if often because I don't know how to skate. And yes, I do realize that playing a sport and watching it are totally different, that's not rocket science, but I guess I am the only moron on this blog who actually doesn't play the sport I really don't like. I bash soccer, you don't see me playing it, I also bash Curling, but you sure don't see me playing that either.

So you may not like hockey, and that's fine, there are some sports that I don't like, but atleast I try to put intelligent thought in discussing it.

uhhh oh yea but you couldnt get the roller blades to work. Oh btw no hockey this season. I knew it wasn't going to happen. Hockey is now the 1st sport to throw the towel in for a entire season. Way to go hockey!
