The curse lives...

Hopefully next year Madden will put his ugly mug back on the cover and he'll end his commentator career because of some freak accident with a sting ray puncturing his vocal cord. But our luck indicates yet another super star will end up on the cover and a year of injury or bad numbers…sucks for all you who picked up Alexander with one of your top 3 choices. Your thoughts on the Seahawks without Alexander?

I said before the season that I wasn't really a believer in “the Madden curse” unless something weird happened to Alexander. So now that Alexander is out for a little while with a cracked bone in his foot, we are now stuck with the question of?
1) Is it really the Madden curse?
2) Did his body just fall apart after 370 carries from a year ago?

I’m leaning towards #2 more, however, Alexander also had 353 and 326 carries in the previous two years (2005, 2004 respectively). That is over 1000 carries in 3 seasons – I’m sure your body is falling apart a little bit. Plus, in 3 games this season, he all ready had 65 carries on a bum foot from training camp.

Either way, the Seahawks I think will be ok without him. They have 3 terrific receivers and Hasselbeck is having quite a career up there in the northwest! They will struggle a little bit, especially against a pretty good Chicago defense next week, but then they have a bye, which comes at a perfect time. If Alexander is lost for the season, I still believe the Seahawks win the NFC West, but don’t make it back to the NFC Title game – lets see if that terrific running attack is more than hampered by the loss of Hutchinson.

Incidentally, John Madden is on the cover of the Hall of Fame edition of Madden 07. Keep your fingers crossed...

Being a Red Sox fan, I am an expert on curses! There seems to be some witchcraft going on here. Although the SI cover curse is subjective, NY Yankees are allowed on the cover curse free (Jeter has been on often). I would guess nobody want the cover spot next year. This weeks Bears vs. She-Hawks is huge, a loss here and Seattle could be revisiting Chicago in late January, and good luck with that.

The Red Sox brought that shit upon themselves. The Yankees are simply too good a team (historically speaking) to let some silly curse derail them.

And the minute S.A. was announced on the cover, I just smiled, knowing there's no way he'd fall far enough in my Fantasy League for me to have to agonize over picking him (I had the 12th pick this year). Certainly, I don't believe in curses, but at some point, ya gotta wonder.

Now if Madden flips over his bus...
