BCS - Legit or BS?

The invites for the 4 major bowl games have come out and we knew that 1 team would get left out, either Cal or Texas - appears to be Cal. Their one and only loss coming to the hands of the #1 ranked team in the nation and that really was a close game.

The only legit game in the BCS in my opinion is the Orange Bowl with USC and Oklahoma, but I can see the argument for Auburn representing too. But seriously, Pitt, in a BCS game after an 8-3 season?

If the BCS wishes to have any credibility, the first thing they should get rid of is “Automatic Berths” to a BCS bowl game in the 6 major conferences. Lets face it, since Miami and Virginia Tech left the Big East, that conference has gone town the tubes. Then next season with Boston College leaves to the ACC, it’ll be even worse.

Not trying to rag on CU Buff fans, but seriously, what a joke that if CU would have beat Oklahoma, they would have gone to a BCS game by automatic berth. Also, Virginia Tech, not taking anything away from their season, but I think Louisville should have gone instead, their one loss came to Miami which that also was a close game. So instead of elite teams, we get Pitt and a mediocre Virginia Tech team instead of power houses like Cal and Louisville – just doesn’t seem right.

What are your thoughts of the BCS and your predictions for the BCS games?

Here are my predictions for the BCS Games...

Rose Bowl - Michigan vs Texas - I like Texas in this match-up, strong running game, excellent defense. Plus they have a lot of emotion coming into the game knowing they needed some luck to receive a BCS berth, so I don't think they want to let this opportunity go wasted.

Fiesta Bowl - I wonder what the TV ratings will be on this game? Utah has a strong team, Smith is a great QB and should seriously be considered for the Heisman, however, they have one faced 1 strong team (Texas A&M) which they destroyed. Pitt, sad...shouldn't even be here and they know it. Utah coach is leaving, big loss for that program...I think Utah wins one for the gipper basically.

Sugar Bowl - Auburn vs Virginia Tech. Could have been a great match-up seeing Auburn vs Louisville or Auburn vs Cal, but no, we'll see a V-Tech team get beat up on. Auburn has something to prove, a great and perfect season to uphold and they will have a legit argument to being Co-National Champions when....

Orange Bowl - USC vs Oklahoma. Wow, 4 Heisman candidates in this game alone, and 4 strong Heisman candidates too. If Bush or Peterson weren't underclassmen, they would probably win it, but Heisman voters just seem to have a hard on for QB's, so my guess is White has the best chance to repeat. But to the game - will come down to defense. Both offenses are excellent, great QB's, great RB's, receivers, shit, I bet their water boys are All-Americans at Wyoming, pardon the pun Mike...But special teams and defense. Unfortunately for Oklahoma, their special teams (mainly their kicking/punting game) suck. However, the x-factor, Peterson...a true freshman RB will score twice and that'll be enough for Oklahoma to pull an upset.

Honestly I am happy because #1 & #2 will play eachother. I feel bad for Auburn because no matter what that team did they weren't gonna be in the big bowl. Even though they shoulda not let Tennesee back in that game and maybe they would have more of an argument or even a possible bid in the game if they went to #2 in the AP poll. I wish that they would go to a 8 team playoff system. I am happy to see that Boise State will be playing Louisville, that is gonna be one high scoring game!

As for Colorado earning an automatic bid that would have been one heck of a story for college football if they were able to to win the Big 12 Championship but if you watched that game they didn't have a chance in hell. They looked like a JV team and it was truly embarrasing.

My big question if college football is who is gonna be the head coach in ND. Hopefully Kubiak or Shanahan gives up on the Broncos and takes the job.

Interesting outlook on the ND job - however, I don't feel an NFL coach will take that position unless Butch Davis accepts it. The only reason is the NFL coach would have to finish out the NFL season which is in January, then they would basically have a month to do all the necessary recruiting which isn't a lot of time and could really hurt the program.

I wasn't surprised to see Meyer take the Florida job though, I think ND isn't in that powerhouse mode as they once were. I do think Butch Davis would make a great fit in that ND job.

Also, I agree that the Boise State/Louisville game will be a great game to watch. However, I will be disappointed if that game turns out to be a defensive struggle. I want to see 140 combined points, 1400 yards...just some Teckmo off-the-hook stats for both teams.

And you are also right, Colorado looked like a JV sqaud, pathetic outing. I think Colorado is a better team, but I don't think even on their best day they could have beat Oklahoma.

BCS blows! Could you imagine if the NFL did this stupis shit, just imagine, Pittsburgh, New England, Phillly. Now imagine one of those teams not allowed in the superbowl. or in baseball this year, Boston you don't get a shot, it goes to the best record teams, Yanks, Cardinals. BCS is no good!

Well, when you have 114 Division 1-A teams, you can't have a March Madness type bracket. I can see a playoff for the top 8 BCS teams, but then it comes down to $$$, each team gets $$$ just showing up in a bowl game.

I really blame the NCAA, they need to take back control and not allow TV networks and other "Sponsors" to have full control of the bowl games.

Don't you find it ironic, that a company can sponsor a bowl game, give $$$ to the university but that same company cannot sponsor an individual athlete. I mean hell, 99% of all Div-1 uniforms are sponsored by a major appearal company, shouldn't the players be allowed endorsement deals.

Guess that's a whole different argument.

Arvada Mike - Why don't you go back to Oklahoma you sour grape! Notre Dame will br back to dominance and I guarantee it. They fired Ty Willingham simply because he could not win and whoever they get to coach the team will be a good choice, I have faith in that. Have you seen the teams ND had to face? Not to mention in a mediocre season they beat Michigan!

HAHAHAHAHA....Mike Mike Mike < sigh >

I thought maybe for once you had a decent post but no, you had to include your personal attacks.

May God be with you my brother, may he help you find the light at the end of the tunnel to get over your inner-anger. I don't need to judge you, my Lord Savior will do that when your time comes, and may he have mercy on your soul.

Lets pray...

Hey guys, glad to get more feedback on this site. Fir starters, it's not my site, so by saying it sucks, you're talking about someone elses site.

Secondly, you keep calling me a small dude. Go right ahead. I've offered a game of football all ready which I will show up to and you'll clearly see that I am not small. But that offer is in your hands...it may be a "joke" to you, but I know my friends and I are always willing to play a game of football, even if it's tackle, lets do whatever is necessary, but as I say again, it's in your hands...you make the choice of whether or not you want to play, or just sit there with a thumb up your ass thinking it's a joke.

And besides, if it's a joke, then your 6-5 270 lbs frame and your "body-building" buddies can easily beat our team, so lets play man

Leave you alone? Didn't I all ready say this but you insisted on keeping it going? And what's wrong, my offer to play a game of football not good enough for you? Scared? Must be...

But all right, lets get serious. Half of the topics posted I did, so are you contradicting yourself by saying you like the site? Make up your mind brother....

There is a new topic about Denny Neagle, go post and if you can try and be serious, please do, we always appreciate the different thoughts made to the topics.
