Denver Bound....

Not slated to be drafted higher than the 6th or 7th round, The Denver Bronco's took a huge risk on this player with the 101st overall, or the last pick of the 3rd round.

Honestly, I think this is a decent pick, Denver has had luck picking RB's in the later rounds, and let's face it, Clarett was just flat out a stud his freshman year at Ohio State. Sure his character since then has been useless, but that's something coach Shanahan won't deal with, or the veterans on the squad.

Don't quote me on this, but don't be surprised if you see Clarett get a lot of carries next season, even be a breakout type RB for the Broncos...he has the TD frame, a great north/south runner, powerful, strong and quick...I like Bell too, but Bell's size concerns me.

I give Denver a B- on this draft day, 3 CB's and Maurice...filled some needs, though we'll need a QB (LeFlors and Orton still available) and a receiver or two.

Denver's need list:
WR - yes
QB - no, they still have Mauck and VanPelt on top of Kannell.

I have a feeling they're going to pull a Ruben Droughns/Clinton Portis with Clarett; make him look like a star, then trade him for a lousy DB.

Please Van Pelt won't amount to anything but a solid practice squad QB...Mauck maybe a little bit more, hopefully he can show a little more this pre-season.

Lousy DB? I hope you're not referring to Bailey. And that is fine if they make Clarett look like a star...though I think Clarett's running style and ability match close to what Denver is looking for. Sure Portis is solid, I think Droughns had a system year, but watching Clarett his freshman year had the same type of style as TD did. I think if Denver can find another RB like TD, won't trade him.

What a steal for the Broncos to get Clarett. There isn't any other player in the draft that has more to prove to the world. I can't wait to see how he looks in preseason, hopefully he can shed a few pounds and increase his speed in the thin mile high air. It doesnt suprise me at all that Shanahan had the balls to draft Maurice Clarett. Parcells said he woulda taken him in the 4th.

On the Slo Mo post back on febuary 28th I said this -

I think he has a lot to prove and he will do better in private workouts. I say the Broncos take a chance on him late in the draft... What the hell ya know? Clarett would probably rush for 1K in Denver. As for the turf in Indy, sounds like BS, it was the same turf for everyone and there were a few players that ran 4.3 - 4.4 times so what does that mean that they would run a 3.9 on grass...NOT!

True James, though it would be hard to put in Droughns during a goal line situation considering he was traded to the Browns...but I see how you'd get confused considering we have half their roster from last year on our roster this year.

I'll tell yall right now that Maurice Clarett is gonna give Tatum Bell a run for his money for the starting job. I don't think that Tatum Bell has proven much of anything yet to lock up the starting job, remember he has only carried the ball 75 times. The runing back position is open to who wants it as far as I am concerned. Who knows maybe Shanahan will just boost up Tatum Bell to get 1400 yards then ship him out like Portis for a top notch reciever then settle with Clarett.

Yeah Red you have a point here, the RB spot really is wide open, though Clarett has an uphill battle on the depth chart. I imagine Bell would be first, then Anderson, then Griffin, then Clarett...Dayne should be listed last on the depth chart, though he might make a good goaline back because his size, or possibly converted to full-back? I mean our FB situation right now is really just Cecil Sapp.

I think when all is said and done, Bell will be starting in @ Miami and Clarett won't get his first regular season carry until week 4 or 5. Bell will start though and he'll have his opportunity to prove himself during those first games. If he doesn't, well week 4 or 5 Clarett will get his chance, but if Bell does...why put in Clarett?

Clarett?

Muuuuahhhhhhaaaahhaaaaaahhaaa.

The guy is so slow, the Donkeys will be charged with a delay of game for everyone in the stadium will have to wait for him to run out of the tunnel before each game.

RB Trivia: Who was the most recent RB Denver drafted in the first round?

Answer: Steve Sewell.

The system looks for one-cut backs who are comfortable with zone blocking and have good vision. Clarett had that in spades his freshman year in Ohio. By the third round, there wasn't anything else really worthwhile left, offensively. We do need WRs. Absolutely. I don't think he'll get the carries this season that Red expects... but look for him to blow up next season.
